Roshan on his 13th birthday September 2006
Roshan came to us when he was 5 years old, he was found wandering on the streets of Georgetown. He
ran away from home because he used to be beaten, brutally by his step father and possibly sexually abused.
This little 5 year old who should have been loved and cared for grew tired of that life and went in
search of another on the streets. Thank God he was found by a Government Social Worker and brought to
Bethel Boys Home.
He was so traumatized he kept his head down continually and never smiled. In fact he would usually go
under the table or behind the wall to not get too much attention. His very countenance was a sad one. He
hardly spoke and had a deathly fear of ‘home’.
Because we had no birth papers for him we did not know when it was his birthday, or his true age.
So one was made up. When he was 12( true age later found out) we found his mother and got documents
from the relevant government office. So his first real birthday was celebrated last year as seen in
the photo. He has come a long way……. Smiling now and chatting and playing like a normal kid. He was
also able to reestablish contact with his mother and grandmother and this has helped him tremendously.
